blocSonic?
blocSonic is dedicated to the net-audio phenomenon. We exist for the sole purpose of filtering through the mountains of freely available net-audio. As with anything online, there's a wide range in the quality that's available. Some amazing, some not so amazing.
Net-audio?
When referring to net-audio, we're referring to music that's released online. Net-audio is sometimes released via netlabels (music labels that operate primarily online) and sometimes via sites such as ccMixter, Archive.org or Jamendo. All the net-audio we're referring to is available for free download. CDs are sometimes made available for purchase. Sometimes artists and/or labels ask for donations instead of selling a traditional product.
Why?
Why not? We love music, we love net audio and have found that the quality and variety of net-audio can be superior to that of the mainstream music-industry. We feel more secure donating to net-audio artists/labels then we do purchasing formulaic music-product from the majors. We want you to also feel the same way as we do toward the up & coming net-audio industry. We know that most people don't have the time and/or patience to filter through it all to find the good stuff, so we invest the time to find the gems in the ruff and deliver them to you in the format of monthly compilations.
netBloc?
blocSonic releases monthly compilations that we call netBlocs. Each of these compilations feature:
- 10 of the best netlabel tracks available in three formats – FLAC, 320kbs MP3 and 192kbs MP3
- 30+ page PDF booklet with full track information, bios and more.
- Complete package art in three formats – tif, eps and pdf
In between releases, you can also look forward to blog posts about netlabel news or topics relating to DRM and online music.
So subscribe to our feed and discover great new open music every month. Be sure to spread the word.
