Improvised Brilliance Meets Studio Wizardry in EATM’s Latest
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when musical chaos gets a soundboard upgrade, look no further than Backyard Gods, the brand new full-length from EATM — the unpredictable, unfiltered, genre-scrambling collective of sonic explorers that’s been blowing minds for years.
Recorded over one winter weekend in Hillsdale, New York, this 19-track marathon is a living, breathing document of EATM’s evolution. Once known for their completely improvised sessions, the crew — Headsnack, Man Halen, Old Yist, Shred Lexicon, MC Doctor President, Matty H, Donny Bassball, and Nicolo Toscani — have found a sweet spot between raw instinct and studio precision. With the help of a new multitrack setup, they’ve turned their off-the-cuff fire into something bigger and bolder.
Backyard Gods captures what makes EATM so singular — fearless creativity, bizarre humor, and a spiritual connection to both chaos and craft. You’ll find songs that sound like fully formed visions, others that feel like transmissions from a parallel universe where hip-hop, rock, funk, and soul all share one basement jam session. From the existential poetry of “Death Inside Of The Internet” to the absurdist saga of “Bowling Alley Love” (spanning nine parts in over 9 minutes!), EATM channel divine absurdity into pure sound.
This is EATM at their most realized yet — still spontaneous, still feral, but now armed with sharper tools and a clearer sense of purpose. The gods are indeed in the backyard… and they’ve got something to say.
