Pop
It’s almost impossible to conceive that pop music as we’ve come to know it as a genre can be traced back to Duke Ellington, Glen Miller & Frank Sinatra in the 1940s. As a “genre”, it’s a bit ephemeral because it continually shapeshifts to fit the sonic palette of the times. An argument could be made that Metallica was pop at the height of their popularity in the early 90s. However we’ve come to better accept music by the likes of The Everly Brothers, The Four Tops, ABBA, Billy Joel, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Hanson, NSYNC & Taylor Swift as being “pop”. It’s this ambiguity about what pop music is that makes it so interesting, especially when it’s independent and poking and prodding it’s envelope to bust out. Here at blocSonic, it’s precisely that kind of “pop” music you’ll find firmly establishing its place in the sonic universe.
