Netlabel Day 2022 arrives!

Covers of blocSonic’s Netlabel Day 2022 releases

Netlabel Day has arrived again, and as always, we at blocSonic have you covered with four releases for you to enjoy! When done with ours, head on over to the official Netlabel Day website to check out many more new releases or to learn more about the event.

The return of Da Molsen Twinz!

So, yo… I think the fine folks of P.U.C.K. who as their alter-egos Mary-Jane (Pot-C) and Hashley (Long John) aka Da Molsen Twinz have decided to make releasing music part of the blocSonic Netlabel Day tradition. At least, that’s what it looks like to us! You see, last year they released their dope debut album “Maximum Awesomeness” and today for Netlabel Day 2022 they return with their incredibly dope EP “3 Bags Short Of A Bender”, which like the preceeding album was in the works over a number of years and you’ll learn more about in the PDF liner-notes.

Anyway, what we have here are seven joints packed with that same rock and humor injected hip-hop that you got to know last year. If you don’t nod your head or laugh out loud at least once, well, you probably need to listen to it again… and again… and again. Hell, even if you do, you’ll listen repeatedly… I’m quite sure. Enjoy.

Mega thanks to Long John, Pot-C and all talented collaborators for the dope jointz you made happen for this Netlabel Day! This EP is SLAMMIN’.

Of course, thanks once again to you for downloading & listening. We always strive to deliver the music you’ll love. Please spread the word about blocSonic, if you enjoy what we do. Remember… everything we release is cool to share! Always keep the music moving… share it… blog it… podcast it! If you’re in radio… support independent music and broadcast it!

Cutside & Trey arrive with their debut EP!

So who are Cutside & Trey, you ask? Well… actually… you may already know these guys. You see, back in 2020, Andrey Martinchik (Cutside) & guitarist Andrey Kruchko (Trey) released their tasty electro EP “Cyberfunk” as MBX. Today for Netlabel Day 2022 with “Tripoholic” they arrive with a new project and a unique new sound.

A hybrid of downtempo and 60’s guitar rock, Tripoholic’s three joints are all you’ll need to be hooked! Enjoy the sonic grooves.

Cutside & Trey, thank you both for preparing such a tasty EP for Netlabel Day! I look forward to hearing more.

Well, today for Netlabel Day 2022 Donnie Ozone N Cheese N Pot-C bring us the Zeopolis theme song in all its hip-hop glory! Enjoy.

blocSonic builds on Hip-Hop’s Posse Cut legacy

The “posse cut” has long been a staple of hip-hop. Whenever a new one dropped heads would eagerly seek it out. Joints like Pumpkin & The Profile All-Stars “Here Comes That Beat”, Marley Marl’s “The Symphony”, Stop The Violence Movement’s “Self-Destruction”, The West Coast Rap All-Stars “We’re All In The Same Gang”, and Main Source’s “Live at the Barbeque” are all shining examples. Well, today for Netlabel 2022 we have what may be the first and the best album devoted to the Posse Cut. “Posse On Bloc, Volume One” collects all the Posse Cuts released by blocSonic, thus far… and boy do we have a bunch for you to enjoy!

Over the years, blocSonic’s roster of master EMCEEs and producers have collaborated to make their own posse cut magic a reality. The earliest one, The Impossebulls’ “We Don’t Need You: Part 3”, pre-dates blocSonic by 6 years, but is found here because it was included on the blocSonic debut Impossebulls compilation “Made by History (Decade One: 2000-2010)” in 2013. It’s the final remix of the song that started it all for the group. When a fan suggested to Chuck D of Public Enemy that he make a song with C-Doc, “Part 1” resulted and The Impossebulls were born.

The most recent posse cut of this selection is “Ultimate Posse Cut 3000” and it’s packed with a record EIGHTEEN EMCEES!?! Among which are notable SpitSLAM Record Label Group artists Blak Madeen (Al-J & Yusuf) and Professor Daddy-O (of Stetsasonic fame)! Yeah buddy.

The previously mentioned “Ultimate Posse Cut 3000” is just one of the many posse cuts that the Cheese N Pot-C extended family of artists have contributed to the bloc legacy. In fact, the very first actual blocSonic posse cut was Cheese N Pot-C’s 2014 joint “Bloc Party”, which was quickly followed by D3Zs’ “Bloc Party 2”… and many more by CNP, Krazy Shitz & P.U.C.K.

In 2019, when North Carolina EMCEE A.Moss joined bloc, many of the bloc family collaborated to make the incredible “Posse On Bloc” (from which this compilation gets its name) happen. C-Doc’s production proved to be a solid platform for the diverse lyrical styles.

In 2021, CM aka Creative continued the bloc posse cut legacy with his dope “Gang of People”, featuring another fantastic selection of EMCEEs.

Finally, rounding it all out are a few remix highlights and the exclusive hot new remix of “Ultimate Posse Cut 3000” by Y.K. Beats.

Anyway, I just want to say that I’m so thankful for all the talented individuals who made all of this music a reality and who continue to make blocSonic an outlet for their talents! It’s such an honor to work with you all.

PS: Along the way, we lost family who made a huge impact on blocSonic and everyone that was lucky enough to know them. In July 2017 the world lost Richmond, Virginia legend Brian Davis aka The Honorable Sleaze, who you’ll hear on two of the included tracks. In February 2019 the world lost Impossebull Marcus Ankeney aka Marcus J who you’ll hear on three. Both had unique approaches to music that added so much to everything they touched. We at blocSonic continue to miss them. Rest In Power.
